Art

Inspired by the impressionists, I love to paint in a way that brings to life a scene and stirs up emotion in others through the brilliance of colour and light.

I loved to draw as a kid and took to oil-painting as a teenager. While painting accompanied me through being a young adult – having kids meant I put it aside for many years. I picked painting up again a few years ago as a way to look after myself, while processing grief.

I know grief and I know the importance of mementos to stay with us and remind us of those we love and what’s most important in life. This is my ‘why’. I want to create images for others that mean something to them.

Environment

My day job for the past 20 years has been working as an environmental professional in central and local government. The purpose of much of my work has been all about taking care about the things we do to reduce our impact on the environment and climate.

It is important to me to bring my care for the environment into my art.

  • I like to re-use canvases for example by finding canvases at charity shops and painting over them
  • I take care in how I wash my brushes to ensure that solvents and paint are not washed down the drain
  • I minimise use of solvents – by filtering the dirty paint and reusing them as much as possible.

Please connect with me if this is something you care about too - I’m keen to learn and explore other ideas to improve my practice.
